Creative Gardening

Hello and welcome!

I'm a qualified, experienced, equipped and insured professional gardener.

My strengths lie in thorough and detailed work. I offer assistance with pruning and training of roses, shrubs, climbers/wall shrubs and fruit trees. I’m fine with ladder work from a level surface. Detailed hand weeding, mulching, soil health and methods to combat pests and diseases. Creative pruning, general and seasonal garden tidying. Development of specific areas within a garden or adapting things to better suit changing requirements. This isn’t an exhaustive list so if you have something else in mind then please get in touch.

Part of my role is to make plant recommendations and undertake planting and it’s no problem to do this in gardens I am familiar with. In other circumstances I recommend that, for substantial new plantings in locations unknown to me, it is better to approach a garden designer whose work will encompass all necessary surveying, research, decision making, sourcing of stock and budget management. This is a job in itself and it’s too ambitious for me to try and fit this in with the mainstay of my work.

Increasingly, I'm asked to assist with the management or restoration of planted areas, sometimes working in conjunction with an existing team who may, for example. be responsible for cutting grass and hedges etc. In this type of situation the ideal outcome is to concentrate on bringing the area up to a nice standard and make use of appropriate methods to improve manageability. Once this has been achieved, it is sometimes possible to step down the amount of time required to maintain the area. The benefits for the customer are obvious, but it also works well for me because I can then maintain a flow of new work which keeps me on my toes.

Confidence and trust are paramount when you're letting someone loose in amongst your old friends and little treasures. This person needs to identify not only the plants in your garden but also what it is that you want to be done.  If they can do that at least, and hopefully intuitively achieve more, then that is my definition of a good working relationship for both parties, and good value for money for the customer.

I'm based in East Chiltington near Plumpton, and am happy to consider working up to 15 miles or so from my base. If you are outside this area then it's still worth getting in touch as viability versus distance depends on general traffic conditions and a few other considerations.

Thank you for visiting my little space on the internet. In January 2019, I did start to add some photos of my work. Then spring arrived in February and that was the end of that. I've now decided not to use any photos. This site has an extremely limited amount of visitors, so spending a long time re-sizing, watermarking and adding comments is something of a vanity project, especially when there is such a comprehensive resource elsewhere on the internet. If you would really like to see past examples of my work then just let me know and I'll sort something out for you. But in the end, your garden and what you want from it, is unique to you.

Good luck with your gardening.
